Travels With Telemann

Tickets: Full £12, Students £6

In Telemann’s 250th anniversary year, we celebrate this charismatic and well-travelled composer who made a life’s work from publishing and transmitting music for the ‘pleasure of the people’. Inspired by Telemann’s own entertaining autobiography, we re-create the vibrant musical scene of his day, exploring his lively friendships with both Handel and the Bach family and the rich cultural mix of music they shared: French suites, Italian sonatas, and a helping of music for the theatre.

Passacaglia is a UK-based professional ensemble specialising in music from the baroque era, played in authentic style on recorders, flutes, violin, viola da gamba and harpsichord. They are always keen to share their passion, instrumental skills and knowledge of the music of the baroque age, as they discover and recreate music from this most lavish, intimate and extravagant of musical periods – making for a truly intoxicating concert experience!

‘The best historically informed performances and recordings recreate the spirit as well as the sound of the music, and the now well-established group Passacaglia do just that, combining the two to make a performance of irrepressible joy - Gramophone
