The opening item in this concert anticipates the 250th Anniversary of the birth of Beethoven in 2020, with a piece commissioned by the Brodsky Quartet some years ago from the Japanese composer Karen Tanaka. This piece features quotations from Beethoven’s String Quartet No.18.
The quartet takes its name from the great Russian violinist Adolf Brodsky, the dedicatee of Tchaikovsky's violin concerto and a passionate chamber musician. Since their formation in 1972, the Brodsky Quartet have enjoyed a busy international performing schedule during which they have performed over 3,000 concerts on the major stages of the world and have released more than 60 recordings. Based in the UK, they are regularly recorded for television and radio with their performances broadcast worldwide.
