Our opening concert features the highly entertaining Budapest Café Orchestra, who have been described as “the finest purveyors of Balkan music this side of a Lada scrap heap” and whose line-up includes “Pavarotti’s favourite accordion player” Be prepared to be swept off your feet!
Their programme of folk and gypsy-flavoured music from across the Balkans and Russia, includes Klezmer, Romanian Doinas and Hungarian Czadas styles, evoking images of Tzigane fiddle maestros, Budapest café life and gypsy campfires.

The four players are highly professional performers, masquerading as a village band. They include a supreme champion accordionist, and a violinist of blinding skill, one of Europe’s finest jazz musicians, plus double bass and guitar/balalaika and saz.
The infectious energy of the BCO will sweep you off your feet and stay in your heart forever. You will journey from one emotional pole to another: from a desperately tragic evocative heart-rending ancient Jewish melody to a dance from Romania or Russia and all the fiery exuberance that goes with it.
