Music for a summer afternoon from two recent graduates of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland

Charlotte Hay
Aberdonian cellist Charlotte Hay first began studying cello at the age of seven, going on to study with Scott Matheson and with James Halsey at the North-East of Scotland Music School where she was awarded the Joan Dickson Scholarship for Cellists. Charlotte is a 2026 Graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where she studied under Betsy Taylor and was the recipient of the RCS’ scholarship for final year strings students. During her time at the RCS, Charlotte enjoyed working with ensembles such as the Scottish Opera and Scottish Ensemble. Charlotte is a current participant in Overture, an apprenticeship scheme with the Orchestra of the Royal Ballet and Opera (Covent Garden).

Ruari Woodsend
Scottish-Born cellist and piano accompanist Ruarí Woodsend started learning the cello at age 8 and piano at age 11, and was admitted to study at St Mary's Music School in Edinburgh. He there studied under John Cameron and then went on to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with Dr. Alison Wells, completing his degree in 2025. Ruarí has performed piano concertos by Gershwin and Rachmaninov and regularly accompanies public and private masterclasses, performance classes, recitals and exams within the conservatoire. Ruarí is an extra with the RSNO and has received scholarships to study at the conservatoires of Scotland, London, and Manchester.
