Piano music for a summer afternoon from award-winning students of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
Georgiana Grecu is a 21-year-old classical pianist studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under the tutelage of Fali Pavri and Sinae Lee. She also attended St Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh where she received masterclasses with Aaron Shorr, Dany Driver, Steven Osbourne, and most recently at the Conservatoire with world renowned pianist Jonathan Mamora working on Mozart Concerto No 15. In addition to her studies, Georgiana was also awarded Special Commendation in the 2022 Isobel Dunlop Composition Competition and was the winner of the 2022 Composition Class at the Edinburgh Competition Festival. At the conservatoire, aside from numerous solo and chamber performances, she takes part yearly in the Piano Festival, performing with MGeorgiana Grecuichael Gemmell works such as Morton Gould Suite for 2 Pianos, and Bartok’s Mikrokosmos. This led them to continue their musical journey as a duo and curate a longer programme to perform.
Michael Gemmell is an undergraduate student of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and currently studying under the tutelage of English pianist Stephen Coombs. In 2023, he placed second in the Scottish Young Musician Competition and became the first musician from the Scottish Borders in 21 years to reach the Scottish finals of the Rotary Young Musician Competition. In early 2024, he made his soloist debut, performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 with his local orchestra. Michael also holds performance diplomas from both the ABRSM and Trinity music boards. Before beginning his studies at the RCS, Michael spent two years as a piano teacher and accompanist in his hometown of Peebles in the Scottish Borders. He taught up to 22 students weekly and worked as a rehearsal pianist for several local choirs and an amateur theatrical company. He has stepped in to direct rehearsals of all companies he’s worked under and played as First Keyboard in two full show weeks for the Innerleithen and District Amateur Operatic Society. Since starting at the RCS, Michael has rapidly expanded his work as a collaborative pianist. He’s accompanied for performance classes, concerts, and course exams, as well as taken part in various chamber ensembles. As a soloist, he has performed in the RCS ‘Mondays at One’ series, and course project concerts. Currently, he is preparing upcoming external solo recitals in 2027.
